The Extended School Year
The extended year school system is based around the is based around the idea that instead of refining our teaching methods we should also be increasing the amount instructional time. The calendar above is a 210 day extended school year, this is 30 class days more than the traditional school system. Some countries such South Korea and Japan as even go so far as to have 220 or more school days. Actually most of the countries that routinely preform better than us have more than 180 school days.
The extended year calendar has all of the benefits explained for the balanced calendar, with the addition of extra days for further instruction. These extra days of instruction can be used to ensure the success of students and teach them things we may have never had time to before. By senior year in high school students will have had 360 or 2 whole years extra of instructional days. How much these extra instructional days help will depend on the school and how well they implement the extra school days, but a majority of schools will see a large improvement by gaining the extra school days.
