The Drawbacks of the Milti-track School Year
Like the single track YRS, there are problems with scheduling non-school related out of school activities, however there is the added problem that breaks may not line up for such events. This problem can be addressed simply by following a model where there are a few common break times throughout the year. Some students may feel a loss of community and a feeling of isolation from this system but I personally do not believe that it would be too terribly different form being put into different classes every year as in the traditional school system. There are transportation issues that must be addressed for those that are in after school activities but on their vacation rotation. Scheduling may also prove difficult given the large diversity in student rotations and class selections.
Once again, like single track YRS there will be costs to prepare the school for the new schedule plan, as well as costly time restrictions on maintenance and renovations. This becomes even more difficult again with multi-track YRS due to the school always being in use but can be largely dealt with by having a common break time. There is also the cost of maintaining full staffing for a larger part of the year.
